**Salary: $11.25 hourly**

**GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:** **FLSA Status: Non-Exempt**

Cooks and serves meals; maintains kitchen. Work is performed under regular supervision.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

* Prepares meals following menu guidelines and portion control procedures; to include specialized diets.

* Follows food safety procedures as per ServSafe guidelines.

* Monitors refrigerator/freezer temperatures.

* Record supplies and food products used on daily consumption log.

* Monitors inventory and assist with monthly inventory report.

* Clean up kitchen after meals, washing dishes, pans, prep and work areas, equipment, floors, take out trash,

* Order food supply from various vendors based on menus and supplies on-hand.

* Pick up local purchases.

* Appropriately interacts with clients and other staff, respecting their right to courteous treatment.

* Practices good personal hygiene.

* Provides coverage in the absence of other cooks

**Other Essential FUNCTIONS Central Kitchen:**

* Ensures prepared meals go with volunteer drivers to correct site and that all meal components are included.

* Help prepare any items needed for internal or external catering, including gathering of supplies, food preparation, etc.

* Ability to work overtime as required by internal or external catering events, including but not limited to weekends and evenings.

* Set up for internal and external caterings; clean-up after internal and external caterings, washing dishes and pans, prep areas, and all work areas.

* Clean break room; keep break room supplies stocked.

**Other FUNCTIONS:**

* Assists with training new kitchen staff.

* Answers phone as needed.

* Provides coverage in the absence of other cooks

* May drive van to events.

* Assist other employees with various tasks.

* Performs administrative tasks as instructed.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**

General working knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing meats, breads and other foods on a large scale basis; use and care of utensils and equipment; general knowledge of food values and nutrition; skill in cutting and carving meats, willingness to learn to prepare upscale dishes; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and associates.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

At least 1 year of experience in commercial cooking or equivalent experience.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**

This work requires physical effort working with materials up to 25 pounds, weekly lifting and stocking of items up to 30+ pounds, and occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force.

**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:**

Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment; attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines.
